introduce
Titration is a typical detection technique, belonging to the category of quantitative analysis methods, widely used in quality control and research and development analysis operations. In recent years, application oriented technology products such as high-performance liquid chromatography and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry have dominated the analytical instrument market, and titration application technology is also very mature and has been verified in practice.
The titration operation only requires some major instruments and materials, such as burettes, large mouthfuls, standard solutions, reagents, and indicators. Due to its simple equipment requirements, titration is widely used for detecting hardness in drinking water, chloride ions in food, metal ions in electroplating solutions, quantitative analysis of petrochemical products, and Karl Fischer titration of water.
The endpoint of manual titration is usually observed visually to observe the color changes in the colorimetric indicator, and the analysis results may vary greatly among different operators. On the contrary, using an automatic titrator for detection results in high accuracy and precision. The reason is that the automatic titrator uses an automatic burette to accurately distribute the titrant, and the titration endpoint is automatically determined by an electronic sensor.
The COM-1700 series titrator is a newly designed and developed product. It has significant characteristics and outstanding advantages. We will introduce it to you as a new generation moisture analyzer.

COM-1700 series automatic titrator configuration and features
The COM 1700 series titrator typically consists of the following components: an algorithm and control unit (ACU) with a controller, a color display, a printed output detection result device (referred to as the "titration main device"), a burette controlled by the titration main device, and a stirrer for mixing titrants added to the beaker during the titration process (see Figure 1 below).
Compared with the original model of the product, the titration main device is equipped with a 7.5-inch LCD color touch screen, which is more convenient for observation and improves the display effect and overall operability. In addition, due to the built-in thermal printer (paper width: 58mm) and USB flash interface, the occupied space is reduced. If you need to expand the titrator, you can easily add optional components to independently and parallelly control up to 4 titration workstations.
The new burette has been completely redesigned, making reagent exchange operations more convenient and the equipment has a longer working life. The detailed information of the burette will be introduced in the next section.

Characteristics of B-1700 burette
(1) Working principle of burette
There is a piston installed inside the glass tube of the syringe, which is driven up and down inside the tube by a stepper motor gear.
Use selection valves to change the flow direction from the reagent bottle to the syringe and from the syringe to the burette head.
When the piston moves downwards, the valve opens towards the reagent bottle side, allowing the syringe to suck in the reagent. When the piston moves upward, the valve opens towards the burette head, allowing a certain amount of reagent (titrant) filled in the syringe to be discharged.
The discharge operation is performed by a stepper motor controlled by the aforementioned main device.
(2) Traditional burette
As shown in Figure 3, the piston of the traditional burette is placed at the bottom and fixed after the detection is completed, while the glass syringe is always filled with reagent (titrant). Due to continuous exposure to chemicals, the lifespan of syringes and burettes may be reduced.
Strong alkali and potassium permanganate solutions are commonly used in titration tests. When using alkaline solution, the glass inner wall of the syringe may be corroded. When using potassium permanganate solution, manganese oxides may crystallize on the inner wall of the syringe. During the up and down movement of the piston, these crystals may cause marks on the inner walls of the piston and syringe, resulting in solution leakage and irreversible damage.
As shown in Figure 2, there is an ineffective cavity at the top of the syringe of a traditional burette. To use this burette, it is necessary to repeatedly push and pull the handle of the syringe to suck in and discharge the reagent, and a piston must be used to completely replace the reagent.
(3) New burette
The newly developed syringe designs the burette head into a specialized semi-circular shape that matches the conical shape of the piston head, minimizing the ineffective chamber volume of the head as much as possible (see Figure 5 below). This innovative design completely overcomes the shortcomings of traditional burettes.
1) When the piston is in standby mode, staying at its maximum movement position is beneficial for extending the service life of the syringe.
The newly designed burette keeps the piston at the maximum limit of motion after each test, in a standby state, which is beneficial for extending the service life of the syringe (see Figure 5). Due to this structural improvement, there is little remaining reagent in the space between the piston and the syringe, reducing the corrosiveness of alkaline solution on the inner wall of the syringe. The piston stays at the maximum limit of motion and avoids adhesion with potassium permanganate oxide.
2) Greatly facilitates reagent exchange
The new burette does not require repeated manual pushing and pulling of the syringe handle to inhale and discharge reagents to complete the exchange of reagents. Users only need to press the buttons on the panel and move the piston up and down a few times to completely replace the reagent (see Figure 5).
The following figure shows the detection results of replacing reagents with a newly designed syringe, indicating that this design greatly improves the efficiency of the instrument.
[Detection Status]
Fill the new B-1700-20 (20 mL syringe) with purified water and exchange it with 1 mol/L hydrochloric acid solution until the water in the syringe and the flow channel leading to the burette head are completely replaced.
As shown in Figure 6, after moving the piston inside the burette up and down for one cycle, 0.1 mol/L sodium hydroxide solution can be used to titrate 1 mL of 1 mol/L hydrochloric acid solution discharged from the burette head.
